The main range of the Tatras extends for 78 kilometres from west to east. The whole Tatras cover the area of 786 square kilometres and they are divided into the Western Tatras(also called Rohace), eastern or Belianske Tatras and central or the High Tatras. There are more then 25 peaks above 2500m together with the most famous highest peak of the whole High Tatras, Gerlachovsky peak(2655m).
The central and Western Tatras consist of granite and gneiss. The Belianske Tatras are created mostly from limestone and dolomites.
